Ingredients for Whole Oat Flour Burgers

10 g dry yeast – 1 small pack

1 cup of milk – 200 g

1 teaspoon of granulated sugar – 3 g

2 heaping tablespoons of yoghurt – 90 g

½ cup of sunflower oil – 90 g

1 egg

4 cups of whole oat flour – 360 g

1 full pinch of salt

 

For the topping

Egg yolk

Sesame

 

For the patty

750 g ground beef

40 g ketchup

15 g salt

10 g black pepper

 

For serving 8 burgers

2 tomatoes

8 lettuce leaves

How to make Whole Oat Flour Burgers?

For the bread

  1. Add dry yeast, milk and granulated sugar into a mixing bowl and stir. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
  2. Add yoghurt, sunflower oil and egg to the yeast mixture and stir.
  3. Place the oat flour in a large mixing bowl and create a well in the centre.
  4. Add the liquid mixture you have prepared and start stirring gently with a fork.
  5. Add salt from the sides and start kneading. Place your dough in the mixing bowl and cover it completely with cling film.
  6. Allow to ferment for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Your ready dough will weigh 800 grams in total.
  7. Divide your dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece by hand and place it on your oven tray.
  8. Put a cloth over the buns and leave them to ferment for an additional 15 minutes. When your buns have completed their fermentation, apply egg yolk on top and garnish with sesame seeds.
  9. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180 degrees for 18 – 20 minutes.

For the patty

  1. Add ground meat, ketchup, salt and pepper to a mixing bowl and knead well.
  2. Divide the patty you have knead into 8 equal sized patties and shape each patty with your hand.
  3. Place the pan on the stove and heat it up.
  4. Place the meatballs you have prepared in the heated pan and cook on both sides.

To combine

  1. Divide your buns in half.
  2. Place the cooked patty, tomato slices and lettuce leaves inside and serve.

The bread used in this recipe is made from oat flour, meaning it has a low glycaemic index and reduced grain content, which helps keep blood sugar within healthy limits.
